IMMUNOMODULATORS

A Drug that is used for its effect on the immune system is an immunomodulator. Immunomodulator is safer and superior alternates to steroids.

There are two types of such drugs based on their effects:

Immunosuppressants

Immunostimulators

Immunosuppressants reduce the activation or efficacy of the immune system.

Immunosuppressants are generally given to prevent body from rejecting an organ transplant or for treating auto immune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, crohn’s disease, generalised eczematous disorders, paradoxical exerbation of chronic urticaria etc.

Immunostimulants are the drugs which stimulate the immune system by inducing activation or increasing activity of any of its components.

We introduced an anthelmintic Levamisole hydrochloride 150mg. tabs. which is also approved as an immunomodulator by FDA USA in 2005.

In 2011 in its continuous efforts to introduce selective quality medicines we introduced Azathioprine which is approved Drug for prevention of rejection in renal homotransplantations and for refractory, severe rheumatoid arthritis.
